Technologies are at the center of developers’ lives and of everyone who is selling them, too. Essential concepts are often ignored between the marketing clout of sellable commodity software and state-of-the-art technologies.
In my 20 years of software development career, at least 15 were spent focusing on the latest and the greatest technologies. The tech ranged from different frameworks, programming languages, and many other "solutions" constantly marketed by the big companies. These were also the times when I looked for answers to problems in programming languages and frameworks. I did all of this while avoiding writing test cases, the absence of CI/CD, estimating upfront, and whatnot!
So, in essence, technology comes in waves. Wisdom, on the other side, withstands sudden ecosystem changes. While this substack is about software engineering, it may not talk about the latest and the greatest tech, like executing sql queries from your react code(who came up with that idea anyway?)Â It would rather discuss other concepts that can stay longer than the current technology trends with every developer, manager, and CxO.
